Compassion Matters
Compassion matters when trying to form common relationships between yourself and another human being. Compassion is a sympathetic pity or concern for the sufferings or misfortunes others. The Dalai Lama says, " Love and compassion are necessities not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive" (Dalai Lama,Brainyquote.com). Part of being the intelligent species that we are, is he ability to empathize with others. This ability contains great powers it has even prevented wars, poverty and many other sufferings f te world. This all comes down to communication. When Somebody listens to you, really listens and has compassion for what you are saying, it conveys their genuine interest in what your talking about and how you are feeling. Because communication is key in creating effective relationships, it makes compassion matter in this facet. One important aspect in being an effective listener and communicator is validating what the other is saying. When someone validates you, you are reassured that they are listening and understanding you on a psychological level. When someone is compassionate they are validating you emotionally. A feeling of trust manifests itself after being thoroughly understood. The trust ensues a bond and from there, reform and reconstruction can then be possible to remedy any physical or emotional destruction.
Compassion can also be seen through the giving end. When compassionate towards anther, you must first become aware of their suffering. Being a human, we are compelled to keep our species going so we must first see that our fellow human being has a problem. We have to open our eyes and begin to actually look at the tragedy around us. The next motion is to be moved by these sufferings, and to let your heart respond to this pain. When this happens, you are filled with thoughts of warmth, caring and the desire to help the one in trouble. It means to offer understanding an kindness when the other fails or makes mistakes. After this happens, you can realize that failure, misfortune, and imperfections are all part of shared human experience. Not one person is above feeling, feelings of pain and suffering. If we can just listen to each other and have genuine compassion for one another, we are then able to keep each other alive and he human race thriving.
